MBBS, MRCGP (distinction), FRNZCGP

I am born and bred in the North of England and completed my medical degree in Newcastle in 1996. After working in hospitals for 4 years I moved back to Yorkshire to train as a GP and became a member of the Royal College of GPs in 2005. I moved to New Zealand with my husband and 3 young children in 2008 and Nelson has become our home. In 2010 I became a fellow of the Royal New Zealand College of GPs. I love the diversity of working in general practice and especially enjoy the relationships developed over time. I feel that being a GP is a privilege- to be able to help people through all aspects of their life journey. I have a special interest in youth health and respiratory medicine and I am a forensic medical examiner. My interests outside of work revolve around my family, running, exercising and my dog.

MBChB, FRNZCGP, PG Dip Paeds, PG Cert WHlth

I grew up in Southland with Kiwi-American parents and spent some time studying in the USA. I completed my medical degree at Otago University and worked as a junior doctor at Nelson Hospital, a general practice in Wanaka and at Middlemore and Starship hospitals in Auckland. Here I fed my enthusiasm for children’s heath by completing a post-graduate diploma in paediatrics. My husband and I moved to Nelson in 2006 and love that we get the opportunity to raise our four energetic young children in this beautiful corner of New Zealand.

I am interested in people and our varied experience of life and count it a privilege to walk life’s journey with my patients. I completed my GP training here in Nelson and a post-graduate certificate in women’s health. My other interests include older person’s health, palliative care and the psychological aspects of health.

I have been working as a GP for more than 10 years. I undertook my under graduate Medical Training in Auckland before working as a junior Doctor in Rotorua for 2 years where I completed a Post graduate Diploma of Paediatrics.

I then spent 9 years living and working in Scotland and completed by Vocational training in General Practice  and  a Post graduate diploma of Reproductive Medicine and Sexual Health.  In 2009 I returned to New Zealand and became a fellow of the New Zealand Royal College of General Practice. I have also have done extensive training in Psychiatry. I bring a diverse range of experience to General Practice. I believe community based Health Care is the cornerstone of healthy communities and that patients’ having a strong relationship with a general practice team is invaluable.

Doctor Kae Bennetts

MBChb, FRNZCGP

I was born in Canada, to British parents. From the age of 6 years old I grew up in the centre of England, then went to London to study medicine at Guys Hospital. I emigrated to New Zealand/Aotearoa in 1992 and trained to be a G.P, working from 1996 in Akaroa, Amberley, and Christchurch. Then I worked as a rural doctor in Reefton, and Kaikoura and then moved to Nelson. I studied acupuncuture in Beijing in 1994 via the World Health Organisation.  I love different languages, cultures and health beliefs. I have been inspired by Maori health models and Te Whare Tapa Wha.

I feel strongly about trust, care and communication in helping patients manage and understand their health conditions and choices.  Being a G.P. Is a very privileged job and vocation. I hope to help people and share some of the burden of being unwell by walking alongside them through their various stages of life. It is making the space in which we care and focus which can change a persons health or a place to share a burden and care and alleviate suffering.

In my own time I sing in a community choir , plant trees, practice yoga and spend time with my family. I became a mother with my partner Chris later in life. We have a son and daughter together. It has been the biggest job of my life! We have a dog called Pippi.
